Have you considered a career in Animation, Game Programming or Web Design? This is a popular course choice amongst students. We offer a range of exciting IT units that combine to build a well‐balanced course suitable for any r elated IT, Computing or Computer Science or combination degree course.

This course combines well with other Level 3 BTEC subjects, such as Business, Creative Media Production or Music Technology, as well as A level subjects, subject to timetable restrictions. This is an in‐depth technical study of how computers are used in industry and commerce and is aimed at students who want to pursue a career in IT or related sectors. The course has a high vocational content and includes a set of cor e units; Communication and Employability Skills, Computer Systems and Information Systems. There is also a wide range of additional units that cover topics such as networks, website design, games development, software design, digital graphics and animation. This gives students the chance to not only develop new skills but also to develop appropriate skills for their future career.

The course can be taken at three levels:

Subsidiary Diploma ‐ Equivalent to 1 A Level after two years, 6 units

Diploma ‐ Equivalent to 2 A Levels after two years, 12 units

Extended Diploma ‐ Equivalent to 3 A Levels after two years, 18 units

Course Assessment ‐ 100% coursework producing assignment portfolios

 

What We Add

Dedicated and experienced staff who really care about delivering excellent results for their students. BTEC IT was in the top 10% of results nationally (July 2015 cohort).

The College has excellent IT facilities. Our dedicated IT classrooms have been equipped to a high specification. The rooms all have digital projectors, interactive whiteboards and a range of devices to assist your learning. We are currently running Windows 7 and using the MS Office suite on our network, which students can also access remotely when off‐site. Whilst on‐site students also have access to specialist software such as the Adobe Master Collection CS5.5.

 

Entry Requirements

You will need to meet the standard college entry criteria for BTEC level 3 qualifications, normally supported by a grade C (4 or 5) or above GCSE in English.

 

After Sixth Form

You may progress into the computing industry or continue into higher education. You may specialise in any of the following at university: Creative Computing, Web Design and Development, Computer Science, Computer Games Design and Development, Business Information Systems, Animation, or any related IT, Computing or Computer Science degree.

Other career areas such as science, engineering, transport planning, music and the arts, film and television, all call on ICT.
