The event took place at the college’s performance space and was co-ordinated, promoted and staffed by second year BTEC music students, in a team headed by budding live events manager Lydia Fox.
The 18-year-old said: “It was a learning curve – all students came away from the project feeling like they have a greater understanding of the hard work and many hours put into holding the concerts we love to attend.”
The first half of the night showcased acoustic artists, including Hayley Chambers, 17, Kirsty Challis, 17, Azza Lambert, 19, and Lily Minns, 18.
The second saw some powerful jazz from Joe Flatt and his band, upbeat acoustic pop from the three-piece Echo, made up of Chloe Smith, Deaglan Devine and Harry Harness, and raucous rock from the high-octane four-piece Restricted Youth, made up of Tom Waterhouse, Jordan Warford, Kane Hart and Tom King.
The audience were up from their seats and dancing in the aisles as rock three-piece Autonomous, with Joel Pointon, Jake Carver and Noah Roberts, closed the night with their version of Royal Blood’s ‘Figure It Out’.
All of the acts involved are students of Lowestoft Sixth Form College, and all have taken advantage of the college’s regular gigs throughout the year to hone their stagecraft.
Restricted Youth keyboardist Jordan Warford, 18, said: “It was a great opportunity for us. It felt different from any other time I’ve performed – I actually felt alive on stage!”
The college’s music teacher, Guy Nottage, added: “It’s testament to the incredible hard work and focused discipline of these students that the music tonight was of such a high standard, as well as the event itself running incredibly smoothly and professionally.”
