University Campus Suffolk Trip

Thirty Six BTEC and A Level sport students went to University Campus Suffolk (UCS) last Wednesday to get a taste of university life and courses. For many students this was the first time they had seen a university, and UCS did not disappoint. Students were given the opportunity to use some very expensive sports science equipment in the sports science lab, courtesy of their very enthusiastic lecturer Gavin. This included the universities £12,000 treadmill! and gas analysis system, used to measure the composition of inspired and expired air during running. Students were also able to test their lower body power production through the Wingate test and vertical jump test. The trip was very useful in helping students to decide whether they would be interested in studying sport and exercise science at university. We are very grateful to UCS for organising the trip and in particular for letting our students use some of their interesting laboratory equipment.
