Following the success of previous years’ student-led musicals, students at Lowestoft Sixth Form College ‘dreamed a dream’ to bring a third production to the stage – Les Misérables School Edition.

Abi Reeve, Ethan Cook, Jack Bloomfield, Grave Rodgers, Izzy Shreeve, Rion Elmstrom, Freyah Lee and Emily George have joined forces as the Student Production Team, responsible for directing, choreographing, staging, casting, sourcing props and costumes and so much more.

Abi Reeve, Performing Arts student and Lead Student Director said: “I got involved as I wanted to make the show really enjoyable and collaborate with all year groups to showcase the talent of the college. Directing is something new for me and this was the perfect opportunity for me to try it.”

The project was a real team effort, with students from East Coast College and Lowestoft Sixth Form collaborating in the preparation. Carpentry students helped build the barricade, while Photography students produced headshots for the cast to use for promotional materials.

Ethan Cook, Performing Arts student and Lead Student Producer, said: “It was great imagining the show from the ground up and bringing it to life. The possibilities were endless and making our vision come to life was really rewarding.”

The curtain dropped on the 12th of March, with performances taking place on stage at Lowestoft Sixth Form College from March 12th to 21st. Over 100 guests filled the audience each night and all the money raised through ticket sales and programmes will be used by the department to fund future performances.

Katy Beales, Lowestoft Sixth Form Performing Arts teacher, said: “I am so proud of all of the students involved in this show. Between the actors, the backstage crew and the artists and set designers, there has been a collaboration of over 50 students. They really are a credit to the college.”

Guy Nottage, Head of the Music department, added: “This show wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of so many people across East Coast College and, most importantly, our fantastic cast and student production team.”
